These locations in American Fork and Salt Lake City are some of my favorite places to photograph because there are so many different types of scenery within a short drive. Whether you love the mountains, greenery, water, urban spots, or wide-open fields, you'll find plenty of beautiful options in AF and SLC. Here are some of my favorite locations for photo sessions in the area!
Field Up American Fork Canyon
This location is perfect for summer photoshoots. This little field off the side of the road has luscious grass that gives you the freedom to run around, sit, and lay down in for fun, carefree photos.

Located in Salt Lake City, this gorgeous location is vibrant green and is perfect for couples who want water and mountains in their photos. There are even little wildflowers that bloom in the summer! The leaves on the mountains also change color in the fall.

- The walk to this spot is steep, so a change of shoes/clothing is recommended
alpine loop overlook
Located in Salt Lake City up Alpine Loop, this location has an absolutely stunning view. It is green in the summer and has beautiful fall colors in the fall. It's perfect for an elegant session that highlights Utah's beauty.

utah state capitol building
Located in Salt Lake City, the Utah State Capitol building is a stunning, elegant location for shoots of any kind. This spot is especially popular in the winter when other locations aren't accessible. This spot is perfect for anyone looking for an elevated look.
Notes:
- The best time of day for indoor photos is morning and early afternoon. The best time of day for outdoor photos is sunrise or sunset. You will have to choose which you prefer.

big cottonwood canyon spot #1
This spot up Big Cottonwood Canyon is stunning in the summer and fall. There is a boardwalk and lush greenery with a mountain view.

albion basin
This spot in Alta, Utah is absolutely stunning, especially when the wildflowers bloom. Full of green and a variety of colors, this location shows off Utah's gorgeous scenery.
Notes:
- The wildflowers only bloom for 1-2 weeks in early July
- It is extremely busy, so sunrise sessions are encouraged to ensure parking and less crowds
- This location is extremely dusty, so prepare with a change of shoes/clothing
- Due to limited parking, it is recommended to meet up at the ski resort and carpool to the basin

big cottonwood canyon spot #2
This spot up Big Cottonwood Canyon is stunning year-round. The rocky terrain is perfect for a romantic bridals session or anyone looking for a calm and unique session.
Notes:
- This location requires hiking and is not recommended for those with a fear of heights. Be prepared with a change of shoes/clothes.
- This location is available year-round (if not too snowy/icy)
